After the meeting, Putin will fly home with Donald's panties in his coat pocket.

Trump has consistently proven that he's a terrible deal maker. Remember the peace deal he made with the Taliban in Afghanistan that excluded the Afghan government and freed 5000 Taliban prisoners, one of whom became the suicide bomber that killed 13 US Service Members and over 100 Afghans. Ironically, Zelensky is being left out of this negotiation. It will likely be another Trump disaster.

And of course Biden was blamed for all of that. Yes, Biden made some mistakes, no doubt, but Trumpy started the whole shebang, ignoring the Afghan govt and essentially giving the country over to the Taliban. Never sure why Biden did not change that crappy deal making.

Anne-Louise Luccarini's avatar

Because Biden is a good man who stands by an agreement. Have we forgotten the word "agreement", in this fog of "deals"?

RRiveter's avatar

Well, that's fine, but the "agreement" could have easily been amended by Biden's admr, and should have been. It was within his power to do so, as I understand it. Trump's so-called deal sucked for Afghanistan and for us. Of course, the Afghani leaders booked it so fast you could hardly see the plane take off, leaving the Taliban so heads wouldn't be taken. What great countrymen were they.

I'm sure Vladimir Putin has developed a new appetite for TACOs.

The orange one thinks this meeting is taking place in Russia. And now it’s a “listening exercise.” WTF

Bonnie Lane's avatar

Dear Karen-

I agree that the orange one as you call him doesn’t know where he is going and thinks he is going to Russia.

The Putin puppet I believe, will be listening to Putin reminding him of all the evidence he has on the orange traitor - including getting him elected in 2016 and 2024 ( along with, as Father David has said the “so-called assassin attempt” where trump was not injured- ear cartilage does not grow back, no medical treatment documentation and the timing -when his campaign was facing the Republican convention with low interest and no money- although innocent people were killed and wounded) Putin will remind him of Epstein and Russian sex trafficking with trump and also Russian oligarchs investments in trump tower, etc.

Putin reminding him of the puppets risks of exposure if he doesn’t continue to divide and destroy our country.... the orange one is a traitor and his dementia is taking him down along with his loyalty to Putin.

As if he ever listens to anyone or anything besides the voices in his head.

I am laughing out loud, reading these comments. This guy really thinks he can outthink, outrun, outdo Putin, one of the biggest criminal minds in this century, with one of the longest rap sheets. For God's sakes, he's akin to Stalin. What would Trumpy make of a relationship to that monster? He'd be shitting in his pants, that's what, either before or after Stalin "handled " him and threw him into the Black Sea. The only one of the entire debacle who seems to really know what he's dealing with is Zelensky, and he's not even invited. I mean, really???? He's been living next door to this regime his entire life. What a fucking insult as well as incredible stupidity.

Is there actually an authoritative source that thinks Russia will ever stop killing Ukrainians, as long as there is a living Ukrainian?

Anne-Louise Luccarini's avatar

It's the territory he wants. Killing the people getting in the way is incidental.

Teresa Baustian's avatar

I wouldn’t use the word “incidental,” though. I think murdering every Ukrainian would be essential, in order for Russia to hold Ukraine

Anne-Louise Luccarini's avatar

I wonder if Putin would consider his reputation marred or enhanced by that? It didn't bother Stalin.

Krasnov meets with his handlers. Of course it's a "listening exercise." He's getting his marching orders.

Nan Reiner's avatar

"A White House spokesperson, using similar language, calls the summit a “listening exercise,” suggesting the US is deliberately lowering expectations. Nothing of moment may actually happen."

That might be the best-case scenario. I wouldn't be surprised if Comrade Krasnov gives Alaska to Pootie-Pie while they're there.

The war criminal gave a 3-hour lecture to the felon.

The felon said to the war criminal, "Good luck!"

The war criminal did not return the favor because he had to quickly return home to orchestrate more war crimes.

Trump has no strategy. There should be no “deals”. A ceasefire will simply allow Putin to regroup and reenergize for a new attack. The war will end only when Putin understands that he cannot win it. Read Anne Applebaum for more insight.

I think that in 2020 Putin started the windup to the Ukrainian war thinking that Trump would win again and would side with Russia. A war of this magnitude takes months of planning. When Trump did not win, the die was already cast and the invasion began. Putin kept it going and is thrilled that he can now 'deal' with the POTUS he has in his back pocket.

Interpreter present this time?

They are still trying to fly one in but it seems he/she/it is trapped in some ICE hellhole somewhere.

You wrote that "Trump has yielded on a number of Putin’s demands. Ukraine would not be able to join NATO, and Russia would retain control of the four provinces it already occupies, including Crimea." I must have missed that info. Could you tell us where and when and to whom this was stated?

David Moscatello's avatar

That has been Trump's position since 2022. For example: Feb 23, 2022 ... Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday described Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine as “genius” and “savvy,” praising his onetime counterpart: “I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said in a radio interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.”

It went downhill from there. J.D. Vance is even more anti-Ukraine. He has called for an immediate end to assistance and has put forward a peace plan that would involve Ukraine agreeing to demilitarize all the territory currently controlled by Russia and agree to permanent neutrality.

Hal Brown's avatar

I believe that a cataclysmic betrayal of Ukraine in the offing. If this happens Trump will have blood on his hands. I explain why I think this here: https://halbrown.substack.com/p/cataclysmic-betrayal-of-ukraine-in
