"Make America Healthy Again is a vision of health, government, and reality that trades interdependence for a fantasy of personal control and optimization."

Yes, a bureau this size in a nation this size is inherently complex. Also now a fan of Ms. Houser, for this. America has tried to dumb down everything, to our peril. Nothing is simple except death. And don't tell me what kind of oil to cook with!!!

You got me with the phrase, "the lie of simplicity." The con of simple lies is not only found in the toxic MAHA movement, but within the Trumpian MAGA canon of con jobs regarding every aspect of life that can not be explained easily to a 5 year old.

This is a beautiful article. I particularly like what you said about emergent effects, Meghan. I've been realizing that the smooth-running USA of my childhood, which included things like election candidates graciously accepting it when they lost, was also an emergent effect. The work of many good people, unsung heroes, made the country great in the past.

Disillusioned in RFK’s failure to keep us away glyphosate? This is a guy who made $2.5 million in attorneys fees fighting Monsanto and now all the sudden glyphosate is hunky dory? He may be the worst of the hypocrites amongst them all.

Getting what you asked for is turning out to be quite the shock for some in the MAHA/MAGA universe, I guess. However, their comeuppance is bittersweet given the untold suffering their deluded ideas and incredibly destructive votes in 2024 have inflicted on the rest of us.

Complexity and nuance matter.

Excellent writing! Thank you.

Whenever a politician says to you,”It’s perfectly simple,” check your wallet.

I cannot imagine one subject, one topic, on which I would take that Kennedy's advise as valuable.
