Plus Trump‘s buddy, Bolsonaro, lost yesterday in Brazil. Maruchado has also returned to Venezuela! I still do not understand why she gave him her Nobel peace prize!

Anne Pierce's avatar

Good news from Brazil indeed. How angry will Trump be when he realizes that Bolsonaro is truly defeated?

SJR's avatar

But Bolsonaro is not conceding, yet!

Anne Jenkins's avatar

He put off conceding the last time, but he knows he’s lost! He’s like Trump. He was trying to declare victory early, which is what Trump is trying to do for the midterms with Elon Musk help.!

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

This is not Bolsonaro senior, it’s Jr. And I don’t know why he thinks he can challenge it anyway, because Lula won quite decisively. And both candidates asked for more time from the Supreme Court of Brazil because of the terrible weather. So it’s not like Lula got some special treatment that he didn’t.

Sounds like Trump....

You got ‘em, Jen!

Thanks Jennifer: Well stated. Having JD Vance in your corner is like tapping a rat. Even having Sen. Lisa Murkowski speaking up for a free and fair election should tell one something about the Trumpers troubles. Buttigieg’ stumping for candidates such as Abdule El Sayed in Michigan is a bonus as well as Democrat Joyce Benson in the governor's race. Lets end the nightmare. VOTE EARLY.

While always important to remember the adage that a week is a long time in politics, the mid-terms do seem to be on the right track. Thank you for The Contrarian helping to put us on track.

"A lawsuit filed Friday (which Donald Trump confessed he personally ordered) purported to challenge the eventual result in Alaska’s Senate race unless the incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan wins. Republicans are whining that an independent candidate with the same name as the incumbent will be on the ballot, but a state court has already handled the matter."

This is literally a tactic the the Republicans used in a race in Florida - the "independent" candidate's name escapes me at the moment. So basically, this lawsuit amounts to "Mom! No fair them hitting back!"

SJR's avatar

I've seen a photo of the Alaska ballot and it is obvious which Dan is the incumbent!

Add it to the list of impeachable acts.

Ellen Thomas's avatar

I think it's mainly a taxpayer-funded ad to try to turn out voters for the incumbent, don't you? There really need to be consequences for the people who file these absurd lawsuits that waste money and court time.

They cannot run on their policies or behavior - so lawfare is all they have.

I was at a campaign event today with our state's senior senator, a leading long term Democrat. He assured everyone that when we see big wins in the House and Senate, the political life of Trump/MAGA will be coming to an end.

Many of his GOP colleagues; Senators and Congress persons privately admit to the dangers Trump represents but haven't broken away yet because of threats against them and their families.

When the political winds shift Democratic after Nov. 3, many of these GOP representatives will publically break with the president and the political landscape will dramatically shift as they try to save their own skins.

This outcome cannot happen quickly enough. We the People must save America and Save the World from our crazy fascist minority.

But how can the turncoat Republicans ever be trusted? We have seen their souls, and it's not pretty. I just think people who say they aren't really racist, fascist, antidemocratic and xenophobic, that it was all a politically expedient act, don't deserve public office no matter what new tune they start to sing.

J Circosta's avatar

I hope you’re right on all counts. A friend told me that T has vowed to veto everything. If so, Republican officials can show some backbone & vote to override. I also think many actually favor some of these policies like drastic cuts to Medicaid & THAT’S the real reason they don’t go against the orange ogre. I will always feel that Rs betrayed our country & do not deserve to hold power again.

I think Ro Khanna has shown what I would want in 2028. I'd be happy with Gov. Pritzker, Pete B., and some others but not willing to go with Gavin Newsome who has been so corrupted by big money.

J Circosta's avatar

Agree. Newsom has been too obvious. And his kowtowing to the billionaires is really against the grain in the current political landscape. He would not get the nomination.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

But I will concede that Newsom got some early great hits in on Trump!

Angie's avatar

Newsom is filthy. We won’t make an inch of progress with a sleaze like him.

Perfect. Thanks.

We can only hope Trump is the biggest loser of all. We can only hope more Democratic candidates win to fill at least a few southern states in the Senate. Democrats will most likely win the House. For those who haven’t voted yet they must make the most of their votes by voting for the non-MAGA candidate.

The only way Vance becomes president is via the 25th. But then he pardons the felon....

J Circosta's avatar

That might actually be the plan. People with actual power & their intellect still functioning like Vought & Miller may well want the orange albatross removed after midterms. They know JDV will do their bidding & they can do a lot more vicious destruction in the remaining two years.

Keep after friends, family, neighbors to get out and vote! We need every single, possible vote to send a message to rethuglicans that their behavior is despicable and utterly unacceptable.

Maburl Schober's avatar

Absolutely, yes. I voted early.

I contend that Jon Ossoff has done considerable good—if he has presidential aspirations—with his forceful and courageous denunciation of Trump, his family, and all his goons. At the same time, Ossoff also understands what his constituents need. He's not going to let the Trump crime family get away with their misdeeds, but he won't do so at the expense of everyday Americans. He's smart, an eloquent speaker, charismatic, and, during the last six months or so, has turned his race from a lean Republican into a rout. The GOP pulled its money out of Georgia weeks ago. True, his opponent is a Trump-endorsed nut job, but Ossoff would have beaten anyone.

Vance is just a Thiel clone/puppet. Thiel is the puppet master. Vance is a placeholder to guard against removal from office. Theil can't run for President, but his clone can.

With 28 million and counting, early votes it is a good sign but the bulk of the job is still ahead of us. The mid-term vote total will probably total in the 150-160 million range. Today only 20% have been received. Perhaps by next Tuesday it will be 35% but that still leaves most of the election support to be done on November 3rd. Encourage your neighbors and friends to vote and help them get to the polls; especially where Republican commissioners have made the polling places less accessible. Get out the vote!

Uriah Heep Vance missed his calling as a flimflam influencer on TikTok. Sad to see a good mind go bad.

J Circosta's avatar

Not sure JDV’s mind was all that good to begin with. His book was mainly a self promotion based on every stereotype of Appalachia- and he really isn’t from Appalachia but a product of suburban Cincinnati. He was almost totally overrated & now has shown how much the hype was just that- hype.
