Every one of Trump's brain-dead supporters who cheered when he called immigrants "vermin" and screamed that Haitians were eating cats and dogs in Springfield is responsible for these murders.
They may not have pulled the trigger or driven the unmarked get-away white vans, or barked incomprehensible orders to terrified people just trying to make an honest living, but they are still responsible nonetheless. These regularized murders were both predictable -- and predicted.
Here in Baghdad By the Sea, it's one set of immigrants demonizing anither set. We are a majority dem area represented by 3 MAGA Cuban Americans, one born in Havana..
Those same politicians are considered DEI by most of the rest of MAGA.
There are documented cases where decent law abiding citizens confronted by a confusing barrage of law enforcement officers do stupid things, and then law enforcement responds in kind. We may panic whether there is any reason to or not.
Although the American Gestapo (lCE) person doing the shooting is not always identified, Democrats should be compiling a list of those who are identified as being the shooter. Turn that information over to the applicable state AG, who must file murder (state crime) charges against that person.
When Democrats are back in control, they must finally face reality and have the US join the ICC. There has been so many crimes against humanity and violation of international law conducted by this administration, they must be brought to justice. Trump may have immunity as granted by the corrupt Supreme Court, but that will not shield him from charges the ICC may bring. The ICC can try him in absentia, but it would be more satisfying to have him sitting in the ICC courtroom.
Writing to stress, as I have pointed out in another post on this thread, that the person with authority to investigate and prosecute these criminals is not the Texas AG, who would certainly not use it if he had it. It is the elected District Attorney for Harris County.
By the report in The Guardian this morning, Marco Rubio is calling for the disbanding of the ICC claiming that it impedes and limits our operations overseas and threatens the operatives. Let's see what the countries who signed on to the 2002 ICC Accord have to say about this.
"As attested by Araujo’s brother and two other men in the car, they were on their way to a construction site and did not 'use his vehicle as a weapon or attempt to run over the immigration officers.'"
It's worth pointing out that even under ICE detainment, these men are showing more integrity than the officers of our government. They would have every reason to take a deal to corroborate ICE's version of the killing in exchange for release, yet they stand by their story. These are the folks I want as fellow Americans.
As of today, in Maine (of all places) another ICE killing has taken place. As usual, no body cameras were in place, and the wrongful charge of the victim "weaponizing his vehicle" is again in play.
Today in The Atlantic David Frum is touting the virtues of compromise, but how can we compromise with an immoral regime that runs roughshod over the values Americans should hold dear. This is no compromise.
You can ignore anything David Frum writes as well as most of the articles The Atlantic publishes these days. I cancelled my subscription quite a while ago.
I agree with you but I would say one of the best. It's not just in the cities. A friend just visited her farmer relatives in southern Minnesota. With all that's going on many of these farmers aren't making it. It's not just about fertilizer and fuel. They can't get the help they need. I talked to a contractor in Minneapolis that had to bring his Hispanic laborers In the middle of the night and house them at the project while they got their work done. Frankly, I'm much more afraid of local gangs that have killing sprees every other night than I am of immigrants. It's another short sighted republican debacle.
Maggie Habermann reveals in her latest book that the architect and enforcer of Trump's racist, cruel, and hateful ICE policies is none other than Stephen Miller. Who will hold this evil henchmen accountable when the Democrats can finally clean up the mess that Miller and others created. Trump simply is not smart enough to execute these policies of hate and vengeance.
Well, who couldn't have guessed that! The main who shared a photo of an idyllic landscape and labeled it "American after removing 100 million people." There aren't 100 million immigrants in this country, legal OR illegal. What he meant was remove every Black or brown person, regardless of how long their ancestors were in this country. Stephen Miller is at the top of my list of people I'd like to see go to prison.
ICE kills Maine resident: Hold Susan Collins accountable for ‘Kavanaugh Stops’ that ICE uses to detain, harass and shoot people based on the race and color.
While clutching her pearls she "has concerns." And let's not forget we have Sue Sue to thank for providing the vote that broke a 48-48 tie to confirm Brett Kavanaugh. This allowed him to create the infamous "Kavanaugh stops" that allow government thugs to harass people based on apparent race or ethnicity, language (read: Spanish), the type of work they do and their location. To most of us with a functioning brain, that's called racial profiling which is clearly an affront to the Constitution. Dem Mainers, recover from the Platner affair and put a qualified candidate on the ballot who will send Sue Sue packing.
Why are we tolerating the daily avalanche of lies and cheating? Friends whom I know are outraged, when asked if they’ve contacted their elected folks, are saying “yeah, I should do that ”. Even the Republicans in the House and Senate, whatever they say in interviews, know that what is going on is heinous and unAmerican…they should be inundated with emails and calls, and they’re not. Are we simply weak and hapless….that we allow a portly and cognitively impaired old coot and his “associates” to wreck our personal wellbeing and our nation? I am sick of the hourly reports of yet another outrage committed in the name of the American people, or another monstrous grift by the Trump outfit.
WE should deluge the House and Senate members with daily outrage, no matter what the issue, because they all stem from their unwillingness to confront "the Don" in this corrupt mafia family. My own rep and sens have a litany of my personal complaints, encouragements, and defined means to deal with this mess, and what do I receive?? Canned, repetitive replies, filling my inbox with zilch and signifying nothing. (At least, I no longer receive a canned reply from one of my former senators, who always finished his communications with "I will always defend your second amendment rights". --that one just set me off so I replied to each with a different, more historically tone, saying that I'd be happy to meet him and his compadres out on the Village Green ay Saturday at 6am; remember to bring your flintlock musket, Senator) Dump on them, regularly and mercilessly, and on any or every issue that emanated from the Miller/Vought vault of vacuity.
'Democrats need no longer tiptoe around the only sensible long-term solution: Abolish ICE and CBP, redesign interior enforcement to end dragnets and gross violations of civil liberties, and reform our legal immigration system from top to bottom.'
This is correct. So, Democratic voters should get behind candidates that have been unequivocally calling to abolish ICE.
In Michigan, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is clearly that candidate. While he has called for abolishing ICE since 2018, last year AIPAC-funded Haley Stevens joined nearly all of the GOP to vote for a resolution expressing 'gratitude' to ICE. As recently as this May, Stevens voted for a bill that includes broad language that expands the already massive powers of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE by granting the agency the ability to collect sensitive personal information for people accused of retail theft. She has never called to abolish ICE.
The Hold ICE Accountable Act, which Stevens has proposed, is not even close to a strong enough position on this. The notion that this agency simply needs better oversight at this point is ridiculous. As Rubin write here, 'Every Democrat should be as definitive and matter-of-fact' as Rep. Jayapal, who she quotes saying 'We have to abolish ICE'.
Many base Democratic voters see the obvious and clear connection between leaders and candidates that support the abuse of Palestinians with US funds, and the open support for, or lack of action to stop, the abuse of brown-skinned immigrants in the US.
Stevens is the better choice. El-Sayed's vague, pie-in-the-sky "not policies but slogans" campaign is anti-Semitic among other things. I'm tired of Palestine being used as a litmus test issue when we have a country to save.
Haley 'I dream of Israel' Stevens is clearly not the better choice, and not just because of her tepid position on ICE or her support for Israel's massive and ongoing war crimes.
I am so sorry you are so, so 'tired' of hearing about the US support for the genocide and apartheid in the Occupied Territories, which is also directly connected to the disastrous wars in Iran and Lebanon...all of this is still happening, right now.
..and it's more than that. The National Defense Authorization Act would create an unprecedented link between the militaries of Israel and the US...and regarding ICE, there has been a long standing collaboration between ICE and the IDF, as well as other federal agencies. The US BFF relation to Israel impacts domestic and foreign policy all over the place, from constant firings and deportations of activists, to huge financial costs, to AIPAC and other pro-Israel PACs nonstop influence in even local elections.
Rep. Ro Khanna just returned from a visit to the West Bank, where he was detained at gunpoint by vigilante 'settlers' and the IDF. This barely even made the news here. If this had happened anywhere else, it would be a national-level scandal.
If being firmly and unequivocally against funding and politically supporting genocide and apartheid is too high of a bar for you, you are far out of step with the heart of the Democratic Party right now, not to mention most of the world.
Yes, another senseless ICE execution—this time in Biddeford, Maine, so soon after Houston. ICE and the Trump regime’s favorite word to project onto their victims is “weaponization”—usually accusing their murder victims of “weaponizing” their vehicle and trying to run over an ICE agent. Of course the regime has been weaponizing the DOJ and the rest of the federal government against the American citizens they are supposed to serve—not slaughter in the streets. These crimes, and the Trump thugs who commit them as well as Trump himself, must be brought to justice, prosecuted, and punished as severely as possible. No justice, no peace. That’s how it works.

Those same politicians are considered DEI by most of the rest of MAGA.
The murder of innocent civilians is a disgrace. An even bigger disgrace is the number of Americans who find this acceptable.
Has even one member of this Administration and its agencies been accountable for their crimes?
Only a few are or have been charged and imprisoned. There should be many more, except for the permissive department of justice.
Good question!!!
"Weaponized the vehicle" is the updated version of "shot trying to escape."
There are documented cases where decent law abiding citizens confronted by a confusing barrage of law enforcement officers do stupid things, and then law enforcement responds in kind. We may panic whether there is any reason to or not.
Generally true. In this case, sounds like victim had not panicked. To say ICE officer did is the charitable interpretation.
How were they supposed to know they were law enforcement officers and not muggers?
Although the American Gestapo (lCE) person doing the shooting is not always identified, Democrats should be compiling a list of those who are identified as being the shooter. Turn that information over to the applicable state AG, who must file murder (state crime) charges against that person.

They said he was trying to flee the scene. Who wouldn’t flee from a gang of unidentified thugs brandishing weapons?
Today in The Atlantic David Frum is touting the virtues of compromise, but how can we compromise with an immoral regime that runs roughshod over the values Americans should hold dear. This is no compromise.
Sometimes the Atlantic just doesn’t get it.
'sometimes' might even be generous.
Yes, I often ignore their articles when the mag comes in.
What "compromise" is he seeing here? What does he believe those on the side of humanity and decency should cede?
You can ignore anything David Frum writes as well as most of the articles The Atlantic publishes these days. I cancelled my subscription quite a while ago.
Fiery, direct, and correct, the best of Jen Rubin.

Thank you for showing Lorenzo’s picture. So that he is just not another name on a page.
And for telling the truth of what happened.
I feel sad- for Lorenzo’s family, and for us.
Please vote!!

I'm sure Susie is very concerned.

I believe she also cast the deciding vote to give ICE an extra $70 BILLION.
The only way Don the Con could be more blatantly racist would be if he showed up for work wearing a white hood and sheet.

Amen. Instead of just a few random communications, they need a constant pounding.
The Trump crime family should be convicted under the RICO Statute and forced to give up three times their ill-gotten gains.
Abolish ICE!
More than ever the Contrarian speaks my mind.
