Thanks, Jen, for this excellent summary. Blanche of course deserves to live out his days in ignominy. But what equally awful excuse for a lawyer will Trump nominate to replace him?
There's the rub. If Blanche is given the boot we could end up with someone even worse. Personally, I'd rather take my chances with the bumbling Blanche.
Sorry but why on earth should "We the people" have to put up with or accept any of that? 'Taking my chances" sounds like a major cop-out to me. It's this kind of capitulation which has helped get us where we are now. And that's what the MAGA in chief and his minions are counting on.
What is your solution to preventing trump from nominating someone even worse than Bondi or Blanche? The only ones who can stop such an outcome are Senate Republicans, and they sure as hell aren't going to do it. So the reality is it's either going to be Blanche or potentially someone who is not only evil but competent. Hence my comment that I would prefer to take my chances with Blanche. There is no good outcome right now, only bad or worse.
"Undisciplined, untrustworthy, and unethical" are qualities which apparently T...p values in his nominations for key jobs in his administration. And come to think of it, when I think of T...p, I can see his own character traits of being "undisciplined, untrustworthy, and unethical" the possible reason he likes people just like himself.
"Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) sneered: 'So the nation’s top law enforcement official is asking for a slush fund to pay people who assault cops? Utterly stupid, morally wrong — take your pick.'"
Really? As if McConnell had any moral ground to stand on. Pretty much all of what's happening now is his fault.
It most certainly is McConnell's fault. Under his rule, he and his cohort in the senate refused (twice) to convict and remove Trump as their part of the impeachment process that the House of Representatives handed them.
Not to mention the call he made at the end Obama's last term to name Garland, then allowed the orange menace to name a new Justice for the Supreme Court before the end of his first term, disturbing the balance in justices' Constitutional leanings and gave the Court its current 6-4 majority.
The only reason that he and those other Republican senators they are saying anything about it at all is because, per MAGA, it has now personally affected them and their chances for reelection to the Senate. Therefore, they now care where before, they couldn’t care less. I also give him no credit for his remarks.
It’s not that I’m giving him credit. It’s that repeated words matter. If MAGA constantly hears things it starts to sink in. For example, Trump likes to repeat over and over “trans for everyone”. That sinks into the MAGA minds. So, works like McConnell’s matter even if we know his goal is one of self interest.
and the administration has said, since this ruling, that Abrego Garcia is still going to be deported, to some African hellhole, whatever the courts do. They are still after him, in other words. 'sore losers' does not go anywhere near far enough to describe this bunch of rabid (but stupid) dogs.
John, there must be a way we can rescue Abrego GArcia from these disgusting goons. He has committed no crime and was living here legally with his wife and child. I would love to see Blanche, Miller, Vought, and some of the others in Trumplandia deported to a "hellhole country" where they speak no English and let them see what they are sending innocent people to, and we the people are paying for this insanity. If we are going to pay, it should be real criminals against our nation who should go! By the way, right now, the hellhole country is us. We need to do something to change that!
Really. At this point there's no analogy from the animal kingdom that works. Even slugs and cockroaches deserve more respect than these--- these-- pond scum? Or is that a living thing?
Blanche is the only Trumper who truly baffles me. All the other bozos (Patel, Hegseth, etc.) would be nowhere without Trump. In contrast, Blanche had risen to the peak of the legal system (a partnership at the oldest law firm in NYC) but jumped ship to defend Trump at a time when his return to office seemed far from assured. You cannot rise to the top of a white shoe law firm or, as is also true of Blanche, spend years in SDNY, while being completely lawless and unethical. Blanche had to know the rules he so cavalierly flouts and had to some extent adhere to them over the years. He therefore understands--as I'm sure a politico like Pam Bondi would not--the enormity of his betrayal of everything The Law is supposed to stand for. And he didn't need to because he was set for life with a prestigious seven figure position. Go figure.
It's possible he's always been unethical scum and no one noticed. After all, working for a so-called prestigious law firm or the DOJ doesn't equate with ethical or law abiding.
I'm not saying he was always ethical, but at big long-established and the SDNY, you can't pull stunts that don't pass what lawyers call the "smell test", not necessarily because these organizations are honest, but because they don't want to be embarrassed or get a reputation as sleaze-balls. Nothing he has done for Trump would come close to passing the "smell test" and he knows that his law license won't be worth a plug nickel once the GOP is out of power. All I'm saying is that he's gambled wealth and prestige for a chance at getting power and (maybe) more money. As a retired lawyer who once worked at a firm like Blanche's, I can tell you that I never met an established attorney who would take such a risk.
Maybe he's a true MAGA believer? Maybe he sees an opportunity to be the personal lawyer of a Trump Dynasty, or if not the Trump family itself then some kind of entity that's in permanent power if the GOP succeeds in establishing one party rule. The GOP appears to be well on the way, to my dismay.
He is another member of the corrupt, criminal Trump regime who has hurt the American people every time he has made a move. It's good that so many are incompetent, but their aims are still death dealing. And we cannot forget that.
Mr. Abrego Garcia is married to a US citizen. Can't she sponsor him for citizenship, or at least legal residency, the way Trump sponsored Melania and she then sponsored her parents and sister? Seems like a double standard here....
Tillis, Cassidy, (probably Cornyn,) and the disgraced, retiring McConnell can have their revenge by blocking the nomination of Carte Blanche. Even better — if they have even an ounce of humanity left after their self-abnegation to this monster — they can block any nominee put forward by Trump and the federalist society when Alito and Thomas quit in disgrace. Let the Democratic senate take it from there the protect the constitution and the nation, something these cowards refused to do.
(1) In General. If, after notice and a reasonable opportunity to respond, the court determines that Rule 11(b) has been violated, the court may impose an appropriate sanction on any attorney, law firm, or party that violated the rule or is responsible for the violation. Absent exceptional circumstances, a law firm must be held jointly responsible for a violation committed by its partner, associate, or employee.
(2) Motion for Sanctions. A motion for sanctions must be made separately from any other motion and must describe the specific conduct that allegedly violates Rule 11(b). The motion must be served under Rule 5, but it must not be filed or be presented to the court if the challenged paper, claim, defense, contention, or denial is withdrawn or appropriately corrected within 21 days after service or within another time the court sets. If warranted, the court may award to the prevailing party the reasonable expenses, including attorney's fees, incurred for the motion.
(3) On the Court's Initiative. On its own, the court may order an attorney, law firm, or party to show cause why conduct specifically described in the order has not violated Rule 11(b).
(4) Nature of a Sanction. A sanction imposed under this rule must be limited to what suffices to deter repetition of the conduct or comparable conduct by others similarly situated. The sanction may include nonmonetary directives; an order to pay a penalty into court; or, if imposed on motion and warranted for effective deterrence, an order directing payment to the movant of part or all of the reasonable attorney's fees and other expenses directly resulting from the violation.
(5) Limitations on Monetary Sanctions. The court must not impose a monetary sanction:
(A) against a represented party for violating Rule 11(b)(2); or
(B) on its own, unless it issued the show-cause order under Rule 11(c)(3) before voluntary dismissal or settlement of the claims made by or against the party that is, or whose attorneys are, to be sanctioned.
(6) Requirements for an Order. An order imposing a sanction must describe the sanctioned conduct and explain the basis for the sanction.
The felon in chief always can reach deeper into the barrel to find even more despicable candidates for his dirty jobs gang. These "lawyers" are giving the legal "profession" very black eyes. Surely there must be some form of taking stock of what law schools teach not to mention the quality of people admitted to study. And where in the world are the bar associations? As a mere lay person the entire situation of lawyers from trump 1.0 and now 2.0 certainly leave me wondering if the legal profession gets caught standing beside Pilate too often muttering "What is truth ", ceremoniously washing their hands while taking their fees to the bank or off shore accounts. ☹️
At this point, the felon has managed to cause the fall of Rep Thomas Massie and Senator Bill Cassidy. Both of these guys especially Senator Cassidy should go against everything Trump wants that has to come through the senate and the same for Rep Massie. They should refuse to confirm Todd Blanche if he gets the nomination. With retribution, what goes around comes around. There’s lots of words I could do without. Trump, republicans and Blanche etc.
That idea about Mitch keeping his mouth shut Bob, should have been applied long ago, and it would have save us a lots of troubles and much of our current nightmares . In any case, it's still a good idea...👍
The dilemma that Blanche, and Bondi, face is that they feel compelled to take orders from Trump, to do things that are unconstitutional/illegal and, because they need to please Trump, they have to speak publicly about them, in the way Trump wants to hear. Between the lines and subtlety are not part of Trump's language.
The whole problem with being 'compelled to take orders from Trump' is that they are supposed to be legally accurate in dispensing justice and impartial. What they are/were is anything but.
Thanks, Jen, for this excellent summary. Blanche of course deserves to live out his days in ignominy. But what equally awful excuse for a lawyer will Trump nominate to replace him?
Well maybe they could call down Brett Kavanaugh from SCOTUS. I'm sure he could keep the same stupid bullshit going.

Emil Bove (worse than Blanche - imagine that).
Exactly!
That was Homan, taking the bag of bribe money.
Oh, yeah. Too many bozos for me to keep straight! Thanks for correcting me.
"Let’s hope that a lawyer who is this undisciplined, untrustworthy, and unethical does not get the AG job."
Blanche should not even be a lawyer. He must be disbarred at a minimum.
Yes. At the very least he should be disbarred.
Alan, I would call disbarrim him, a mini minimum .
Blanche does not even act like a lawyer. Impartiality is not in his vocabulary.
"Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) sneered: 'So the nation’s top law enforcement official is asking for a slush fund to pay people who assault cops? Utterly stupid, morally wrong — take your pick.'"

I ok now we don’t like McConnell but I still appreciate him saying this. Better late than never.
That's generous of you to say, but, in my opinion, It's hypocritical and absurd in the extreme.
Yes, it’s both those things.
The only reason that he and those other Republican senators they are saying anything about it at all is because, per MAGA, it has now personally affected them and their chances for reelection to the Senate. Well said Randi H. Thank you. People seem to have very short memories of what that guy has done and probably still stands for.
Boy howdy.

Hear, Hear!
Don't insult the dogs John, please.🫣

He was somehow seduced into the cult? Cults mess with even smart minds.
Maybe. "I love you" is a strange thing for an Attorney General to say! To say the least!

The Strict Scrutiny women call him Carte Blanche.
Right on point, as usual Jen. Good riddance none too soon, Todd Blanche.
The only problem with that is what comes next? Who is corrupt and dumb enough to get on this train of catastrophes?

At this point Mitch should just keep mouth shut.
At this point, it hardly matters. Mitch should have kept his mouth shut long ago. He sabotaged both the senate and the supreme court.
That idea about Mitch keeping his mouth shut Bob, should have been applied long ago, and it would have save us a lots of troubles and much of our current nightmares . In any case, it's still a good idea...👍
If giving out backhanded compliments is your thing, then you should keep your thoughts to yourself as well.

Meanwhile, Pam Bondi posted on X, "Miss me yet?"
😄 to be followed by hundreds of posts saying some variation of “not by much. “
answer: no, it's not THAT bad (yet)
Not really Roger 😕
