Last Thursday, Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by a federal grand jury after Trump publicly called for his prosecution. Comey’s first court appearance will be on October 9th for arraignment. Tangentially, this past weekend Trump announced that he would be activating 200 of Oregon’s National Guard to go to Portland under the guise of protecting immigration detention facilities.
Robert Weissman of Public Citizen joins Jen to explain why Comey’s indictment sets a dangerous precedent for all of Trump’s perceived political enemies (past, present, and future), Trump’s desire to use military presence to crush dissent, and how Portlanders can resist occupation without giving Trump what he wants.
Robert Weissman is co-president of Public Citizen and a staunch public interest advocate and activist, as well as an expert on corporate and government accountability.
